Gillingham host Doncaster Rovers in League Two on Saturday afternoon with the outcome sure to have an impact on the play-off fight.

Gillingham come into this weekend’s final day clash with Doncaster Rovers knowing they will be playing League Two football again next season.

The Gills sit 11th in the League Two table, five points off the play-offs. A 10th place finish isn’t out of the question, though they could drop to 14th if results go against them given their poor goal difference.

Last time out, Stephen Clemence’s side suffered a third defeat in four against an already-promoted Mansfield Town.

Doncaster Rovers meanwhile have become one of the stories of the season over recent months.

After a dismal campaign where they looked set to be fighting relegation come this weekend, Grant McCann’s side have embarked on a stunning rise with 10 consecutive wins to their name.

Such form while others have stuttered has thrust Rovers into the play-offs and now, a top seven spot is in their hands. A point here would confirm their fate with 8th placed Crawley Town the only side outside the play-offs who can catch them.

“They’re up against a good opponent too. Gillingham, while they’ve shown what they can be capable of on a handful of occasions, have nothing left to play for, and they’re in poor form.

“The difference is though, the shoe is on the other foot. Doncaster are now the ones under pressure to hold onto their place, rather than chasing have in recent games.

“That said, I think the visitors secure their play-off spot with a routine win. Mission impossible completed for McCann and co, but the task will now be fighting for a fourth League One promotion place.”

“Doncaster Rovers have won 10 in a row and are on an absolute roll at the moment. Their confidence will be sky high ahead of this one.

“Grant McCann’s side have catapulted themselves up the league table over recent times and if they win, they will be in the play-offs. Their fate is in their own hands which is a boost.

“As for Gillingham, they don’t have much to play for now and have missed out on the top seven which is a shame for them.

“The Gills have won one in their last five outings and I think they will get beat again here by Rovers.”
