Player Tranmere Rovers signed this past summer heads out on loan

Tranmere Rovers midfielder Josh Williams has been loaned out to Southport, as announced by their official club website.

Tranmere Rovers have given the youngster the green light to head out the exit door on a one-month basis to get some game time under his belt.

Williams, 20, only joined the Whites this past summer after catching the eye with Connah’s Quay Nomads. He has since made four appearances for the League Two side in all competitions and has scored one goal.

In this latest update regarding his future, they have confirmed he has been loaned to Southport. He is in line to make his debut for the National League North outfit this weekend as they prepare to face Oxford City away.

Williams will hope to get as many minutes as possible with his new team over the next four weeks to help boost his development.

The youngster rose up through the ranks at Connah’s Quay Nomads and made his first-team debut back in October 2021.

He went on to become a key player for the Cymru Premier side and played 62 matches for their first-team altogether, finding the net on six occasions.

The ex-Wales C international helped the Flintshire club win the Welsh Cup earlier this year before leaving for England in the last transfer window.

Tranmere Rovers handed him a two-year deal running until 2026 back in July and he said: “I’m buzzing, I can’t wait to get going. I met the manager last week, and after that my mind was made up, I just couldn’t wait to sign.

“I’ve got family and friends who are Tranmere fans so for it to be Tranmere, it’s a massive opportunity and a massive Club.”

Meanwhile, Nigel Adkins added: “Josh joins us having impressed in the Welsh League. This will be a big step up into full-time football for the midfield player however we believe he has the potential to keep improving over time.”

What now?

Tranmere Rovers will monitor Williams’ progress out on loan at Southport.

When he returns to Prenton Park, he will look to break into Adkins’ starting XI again.

The Whites are back in action this weekend against Oldham Athletic in the FA Cup.
