Walsall have rejected two bids from League One clubs for midfielder Jamie Jellis, according to a report by Football League World.

Walsall are determined to keep hold of the 23-year-old in this transfer window amid attention from other teams in the Football League. He is under contract with the League Two table toppers until 2025, with the club holding an option for a further 12 months on top of that.

Jellis has been in decent form this season and has helped the Midlands outfit rise to the summit. He has made 29 appearances in all competitions, 21 of which have come in the league, and has chipped in with five goals and one assist.

In this latest update regarding his future this winter, Football League World claim the Saddlers have rebuffed a couple of offers for his services already. The identity of the suitors are yet to be known at this stage.

Walsall reject bids

Walsall signed Jellis last January to add more competition and depth to their midfield ranks.

He has adapted well to life in the Football League and has become one of their most prized assets.

The Saddlers won’t want to lose him midway through a campaign, especially when they are going for promotion.

After joining a year ago, he said, as per BBC Sport: “This is what I have been working towards since I got released from my last pro contract. I work hard, I like to get around the pitch and in the last few months I’ve started to chip in with a few more goals and assists so I’m hoping I can bring all that to the team.”

Meanwhile, their boss Mat Sadler added: “He fits into the type of player we want here to grow and improve.”

Prior to his switch to Walsall, he caught the eye in non-league with Tamworth.

Jellis has also had spells in the past at Aylesbury United, Stevenage, Hemel Hempstead Town and Kings Langley.

What now?

Walsall want to retain his services until the summer at least.

They are in fine form right now and beat Notts County 2-1 in their last outing.

The Saddlers are 12 points clear of AFC Wimbledon and Doncaster Rovers in joint-2nd place.

They have lost only three fixtures this term and are proving to be a tough nut to crack. Next up is an away trip to Cheltenham Town this weekend.
