Leicester must be said to have had a good start to their WSL season, playing Liverpool away, being 1-0 down and then managing to come back and save a point.

This is the fourth campaign in the top flight and the progress has been seen year by year under a turn of management that should in real see the team struggling more than they have done.

The steps and turnover of players are many, and from that first season up, Sam Tierney, CJ Bott, Missy Goodwin, Sofie Howard, Hannah Cain and Shannon O’Brien are the only left. This season we have seen more new players added as the squad is settling.

Asmita Ale is new, coming in from Spurs, being on loan last season. Sari Kees has been brought in from OH Leuven, as the Belgian international looks a good adition. Ruby Mace spent last season on loan at Leicester and has been added in full, coming in from Man City. Jamaica international Chantelle Swaby is also among those new faces, joining from French League club Fleury.

Also a new coach in Amandine Miquel, previously with Reims. The 40 year old woman coach is one to count, being at her previous club from 2017 to 2024. Miquel started playing football at a young age in Mexico before joining the youth academy of English side Chelsea, helping the youth team win the league. After her playing days, she turned to coaching, helping Reims achieve promotion to the French top flight.

The team took a climb last season, getting a number of good established players in, such as Finland international Jutta Rantala, Japanese internationals Momiki and Takarada, as well bringing forward youth talents such as Denny Draper and Emilia Pelgander.

A good pre-season campaign down under, as well as having time to bring forward a type of pattern in play that hopefully will bring this team further up the table and having the climb we would love to see. The Guardian made a good pre-season update on the team, as we totally agree.

A promising away start, one to really count, as we will follow up on the women with special reports during the season.
