Just weeks after joining Botafogo on a free transfer from formative club Olympique Lyonnais, Mohamed El Arouch (20) has left the Brazilian club.

El Arouch came through the ranks at Lyon, going on to make three competitive appearances for the club. However, his time with Les Gones came to an end earlier this summer.

He joined fellow-Eagle Football Group-owned club Botafogo in Brazil. However, his departure has already been confirmed, without ever having played for the side.

In a post on Threads, Botafogo announced that El Arouch had left the club due to “personal reasons”. Brazilian media report that his decision to leave Rio de Janeiro comes following a home invasion. The player’s entourage say that he wasn’t injured during the incident.

Botafogo, in their post, specified that El Arouch, despite being without a club, still remains contracted to Eagle Football Group. However, L’Équipe understands that a return to formative club OL is not on the cards. His future is therefore up in the air.
