'I have a problem with a certain person' – Jean-Pierre Papin sheds light on Marseille situation

On Thursday the 31st of October, as expected, Jean-Pierre Papin returned to La Commanderie after he had been absent since Monday from his role as the coach of the Olympique de Marseille reserves after calling in sick.

However, as reported by L'Équipe, this return was marked by the former Ballon d'Or winner requesting an internal investigation for alleged 'moral harassment' against him from Ali Zarrak the director of the Pro 2 team (who had previously been in conflict with Chancel Mbemba (30)).

The French outlet writes that Papin reportedly does not appreciate Zarrak interfering in his coaching decisions, his team compositions, as well as the playing and rest time of the young players, nor his role as the middleman between the reserves and Roberto De Zerbi's coaching staff.

In an interview with La Provence, Papin explained that he was uncomfortable working with Zarrak. The Marseille legend stated, "I have a problem with a certain person and I don’t hide it. I am a coach and I cannot accept that this person chooses my five substitutes.

Papin further implied that Marseille would have to choose between him or Zarrak, "It is in this spirit that we must see things… It's very difficult to manage. I wanted to make this clarification because I have the impression that it is almost becoming my fault."

Papin threatened by two unknown individuals

Papin has also filed a legal complaint (in which Marseille are supporting their former player by providing access to their legal team) after he was threatened by two unknown individuals on a motorbike. The coach explains that since the incident he has been living with constant security outside of his house.
