The bad news keep on coming for Rennes. Ghana international right-back Alidu Seidu (24) has sustained an ACL rupture in his left knee, the Ligue 1 club has confirmed. The 24-year-old collapsed in the 18th minute during Rennes’ 1-0 away loss to Lille OSC this Sunday at Stade Pierre-Mauroy with Edon Zhegrova scoring the only goal. Former Barcelona centre-back Mikayil Faye replaced him. Medical exams undertaken this Monday confirmed the severity of the injury. Seidu is not expected to return for the remainder of the season.

It is a serious blow for head coach Jorge Sampaoli considering Seidu was arguably the team’s best performer and most reliable defender in Rennes’ wretched start of the Ligue 1 season. Les Rouge et Noir have conceded defeat in their last three Ligue 1 games and have sunken to 15th place. Rennes will host a resurgent Saint-Etienne side this Saturday for what will be Sampaoli’s first home game at Roazhon Park.
