Sunderland rival Lens and Lille in race for Ajax's Chuba Akpom

According to a report from Foot Mercato, Sunderland AFC are interested in Ajax's Chuba Akpom (29).
The striker who joined the Dutch giants in 2023 from English side Middlesbrough has been linked with a departure during the current transfer window. In recent weeks, the Ligue 1 sides RC Lens and Lille OSC have both considered the forward.
However, Sunderland have now entered the race and are looking to secure the striker as they attempt to consolidate their current bid for promotion back to the Premier League. Akpom has experience in the Championship. In his last year with Middlesbrough, Akpom ended the season as the Championship top scorer having registered 28 goals in 40 league appearances.
Sunderland have already pulled off one transfer coup during the winter window when they won the race for Enzo Le Fée from AS Roma. The French midfielder has joined the club on loan but with an option to buy.
