The Swedish prosecutor announced in a press release that the investigation opened last October relating to a suspected rape case during Kylian Mbappé’s (25) trip to Stockholm has been closed this Thursday due to insufficient evidence.

The Real Madrid centre-forward and France captain spent a few days in Sweden while recovering from a thigh injury during the October international break. Reports from Swedish media claimed that Mbappé was the subject of the police’s investigation, although the player’s entourage denied any wrongdoings, stating they were unaware of any inquiry.

In their press release, the Swedish prosecutor does not even mention Mbappé. “During the investigation, there has been a designated person reasonably suspected of rape and two cases of sexual harassment, but my assessment is that the evidence is not sufficient to proceed further and the investigation is therefore closed”, says senior Swedish prosecutor Marina Chirakova.
