In September, Wesley Fofana (23) was selected by Didier Deschamps to represent France, however, it was a call-up that was ultimately revoked. Upon his arrival at Clairefontaine, it was decided that, after discussions between the centre-back, Deschamps, and the medical staff, it would be best for Fofana to return to Chelsea.

It was a decision taken out of prudence with all parties keen to avoid any injury or overload following a serious knee injury last year. Fofana was once again called up to Les Bleus’ squad to face Israel and Belgium in the UEFA Nations League. However, RMC Sport reported that Chelsea requested that Fofana once again undergo tests, with a view to the defender potentially returning to London, rather than honouring the call-up.

The former AS Saint-Étienne and Leicester City defender underwent tests on Monday, however, unlike last month when he returned to the UK, he will instead remain with the national team set-up during the international break with no injury being detected, as per L’ÉquipeChelsea had hoped that they would get their centre-back back during the break.
