The Liverpool midfielder says he's not interested in talking about season goals, he's just interested in getting the next result.

Liverpool's start to life under new head coach Arne Slot has gone about as well as anyone could have possibly hoped or expected, with the Reds top of the Premier League table after six games and past their first tests in the League Cup and Europe.

Next up, they play their first Champions League home game of the season, but key midfield man Alexis Mac Allister says it's not about what they've done so far or any words he might say about their hopes and goals—all that matters now is what they do out on the pitch.

"I could say a lot of things but it's not about talking, we have to show it," Mac Allister insisted. "I think that we have an amazing team, which we did last season as well, so now we play every game and then we see where we are in January and February."

When it comes to the playing every game part, though, Mac Allister echoed what some of the game's biggest stars have focused in on of late. Namely, fixture congestion, with every season seeming to bring with it a more matches for already overworked players.

The game's top stars have gone from expecting to play 50 or 60 games a year for club and country to 60 or 70 and now even more, with international tournaments like the League of Nations an established part of the fixture list and now two extra Champions League games.

In isolation, an extra game here or there might not seem like much, but with that extra game or two seemingly added each and every summer without end—and an expanded Club World Cup on the horizon—it's a situation many feel is untenable.

"The only thing I can say is we all love playing football," Mac Allister added when asked about the fixture list. "We're all tired and we play a lot of games. All I want to say is we need more communication between parties. That's the only way we can move forward."
