Liverpool pulled through a difficult game against Crystal Palace on Saturday lunchtime.

The Reds went into the match sitting top of the Premier League table and ended up extending their lead further after winning 1-0.

After a straightforward first-half in which Diogo Jota put Liverpool into an early lead, the Reds faded as the game went on.

Alisson Becker was needed more than the Reds would have liked as the goalkeeper kept his team in the lead.

However, there was big turning point with 11 minutes left as Alisson went down injured with a hamstring injury.

It was a worrying sign for Liverpool fans, especially with Caoimhin Kelleher missing out on the matchday squad through illness. Without Kelleher, Vitezslav Jaros came on for a Premier League debut.

Arne Slot gives verdict on Vitezslav Jaros debut

Liverpool have so far done relatively well in terms of injuries this season. The Reds have got away without too much damage.

However, Alisson’s recurring issues are becoming a bit of an unfortunate theme.

The goalie’s absences allowed Kelleher to play 26 times for Liverpool last season and after Alisson picked up a similar problem on Saturday, the Irishman could get chance to rack up a similar number again.

But, at times where Kelleher may be missing, too, Jaros stepped in at Selhurst Park to show why Liverpool are still in safe hands.

Asked by TNT Sports after the game to comment on the 23-year-old’s performance, Slot said that he had been happy, before admitting that Jaros had actually pushed to leave over the summer.

“Really good,” gushed the Liverpool head coach. “He had a very good season last season winning the league and cup. We trust him a lot.

“He wanted to go but at a club like this we need a good third goalkeeper and that proves that we are right and it was a nice moment for him.”

Jaros shows Liverpool can count on him

While the Alisson injury is perhaps the story of the day for Liverpool, it was nice to see Jaros get his moment.

The Czech goalkeeper is highly rated at the club and, as Slot says, had looked unlikely to get a chance with two top ‘keepers in-front of him.
