Liverpool head into the next international break sitting top of the Premier League table after beating Crystal Palace 1-0.

Arne Slot has proven Kris Boyd wrong this season, with the Liverpool manager flying high in his early stages at Anfield.

The Dutchman led Liverpool to another clean sheet against Crystal Palace, with Diogo Jota netting the only goal of the game.

Jota impressed Virgil van Dijk with his goal, with the Portugal attacker firing home from a Cody Gakpo cross in the ninth minute.

Slot will undoubtedly be upset that another international break is now taking place, which is certain to disrupt the rhythm at Anfield.

Worryingly, the busy schedule is likely to see some of his players arrive back on Merseyside fatigued, particularly those travelling long distances.

One Liverpool player certain to be involved for his nation is Reds and Netherlands captain Van Dijk, who has been named in Alan Shearer's latest Premier League Team of the Week.

As per the Premier League website, Shearer said of the defender: "Another typically assured performance from Liverpool's captain."

Van Dijk often came under fire for his displays last season, but he certainly wasn't the only player to somewhat underperform in Jurgen Klopp's final campaign.

Moreover, the centre-back is an easy target for criticism, having set such high standards at Liverpool over the years.

But this season he has been in phenomenal form, with the captain forming a formidable partnership with Ibrahima Konate.

The Reds now have a league-leading five clean sheets, with conceding seemingly an area that Slot is working on after the defensive issues last season under Klopp.

Unsurprisingly, the Merseyside outfit are also top of the pile for the fewest goals conceded, with just two goals let in from their seven league matches so far.
