'At this stage': What Federico Chiesa actually thinks about leaving Liverpool this January - journalist
Today at 12:00 PM
Federico Chiesa has had a frustrating debut season with Liverpool after arriving from Juventus last summer with much excitement.
The 27-year-old Italian international is still regarded as one of the best attackers in Europe despite spending the best part of three years struggling with injuries and inconsistent form, with Chiesa’s move to Liverpool viewed as a complete restart on the forward’s career.
However, Chiesa is now rumoured with an exit from Liverpool with Napoli eyeing the winger as a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia as the former Serie A attacker looks to be heading to a crossroads already during his time at Anfield.
Yet Chiesa’s actual stance on leaving Liverpool could end speculation on his future.
Chiesa ‘has no intention’ of leaving Liverpool this January
According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Chiesa does not want to leave Liverpool this month despite a lack of minutes and growing interest from clubs back in Italy, where the forward would be a regular.
Plettenberg wrote: “At this stage Federico Chiesa still has no intention of leaving Liverpool until the Deadline Day on February 3. He would like to stay at Liverpool and prove himself. The 27-year-old winger is fully focused on his goals with Liverpool. Contract until 2028.”

With John Aldridge lauding Chiesa after his cameo against Brentford this weekend, the Italian’s presence in Arne Slot’s squad is starting to grow with the forward finally fit enough to feature on a regular basis for Liverpool.
And with the attacker showing no sign of leaving Merseyside this January, Chiesa can finally establish himself as a key player for Liverpool this season if he can stay fit, with the winger good enough to star for the Reds in their front-line.
Who could actually leave Liverpool during the January window?
Chiesa leaving Liverpool this month always felt unlikely even with rumours back in Italy spreading like wildfire this month surrounding the winger’s future, with the Reds seemingly intent on sticking with the 27-year-old.
Yet there could be some departures from Anfield this month, with Wataru Endo open to leaving Liverpool having hardly featured under Slot this season and amid reports that the Reds could look to bring in a midfielder or two this month.
With Real Madrid also eyeing a swoop for Trent Alexander-Arnold, there could be some surprises in store this January, where the Reds will be hopeful that they don’t end up losing one of their key players to a rival club.
