Daniel Sturridge’s career at Liverpool was a tale of what could have been.

The English forward is one of the most underrated players to have played for the Merseyside club in recent years and there are many reasons why the 35-year-old is viewed this way.

The main one is injuries, which plagued Sturridge’s career at Anfield, causing the former Reds star to miss many games.

However, on his day, the Englishman was electric and produced some of the best goals ever seen from a player in a red shirt.

Sturridge was also a character off of the pitch and speaking about the forward, all of his teammates at Liverpool noticed the same thing about the former England international.

Liverpool teammates noticed the same thing about Daniel Sturridge

When it came to football ability, Sturridge had two lethal weapons in his locker that made him a top forward in the Premier League: speed and finishing.

The former Liverpool displayed this throughout his time at Anfield but if you asked one of his former teammates what stood out about the 35-year-old, they may not mention this.

Sturridge was also famous for his goal celebration, which consisted of a dance, and sometimes his teammates would join in.

This earned the former England international the reputation of being the best dancer at Liverpool and his teammates at the time agreed.

When asked who the best dancer was in the Liverpool squad back in 2017 by Soccer AM, both Simon Mignolet and Philippe Coutinho picked Sturridge.

“I think Sturridge,” Coutinho replied when asked about Liverpool’s best dancer. “That’s easy, he is always dancing when he scores… It’s a good dance, no?”

Coutinho is one player who witnessed the best of Sturridge and the Englishman’s first two seasons on Merseyside is what the rest of his time at Liverpool should have looked like had it not been for his fitness issues.

Daniel Sturridge’s impressive first two seasons at Liverpool

Sturridge joined Liverpool during the January transfer window of 2013, joining the Merseyside club from Chelsea.

The forward was an immediate hit in Brendan Rodgers’ team as the striker produced 10 goals and three assists across his first 14 Premier League games for the Reds.

This would be followed up with an incredible 2013/14 campaign for the Englishman as the former Chelsea star came so close to helping Liverpool win the Premier League playing alongside Luis Suarez.

Sturridge produced 25 goals and seven assists across 33 games in all competitions and this version of the forward is what many fans remember about the player’s time on Merseyside.

Sturridge recently stated about Mohamed Salah that those in the Liverpool dressing room did not think he would become the player he is today when the winger first arrived at Anfield.

Many felt the same way as Sturridge when he initially joined the club and after thinking they signed a superstar following his first two seasons, the Merseyside would not see the Englishman reach the heights of the Egyptian king.
