Life at Liverpool has not been easy for Darwin Nunez since arriving at Anfield during the summer of 2022.

Jurgen Klopp was keen to add the striker to his squad after coming up against the Uruguayan star in the Champions League the previous season, where the 25-year-old scored in both of Benfica’s quarter-final matches against the Reds.

The £85m fee Liverpool paid the Portuguese giants for the Nunez immediately put pressure on the forward, while the arrival of Erling Haaland at Man City during the same transfer window also provided fans with a direct comparison.

While the Norwegian superstar has been immense for the Premier League champions, Nunez has been a source of frustration at Liverpool.

The 25-year-old has lacked confidence in front of the goal, his decision-making needs work and remaining onside has been an issue.

Arne Slot does not seem to trust the player and it has led to Saudi Arabian clubs being linked to Nunez during the current transfer window.

Another issue for the Reds star is that a Bundesliga talent that the Merseyside club have an eye on, continues to produce masterclasses in Germany.

Liverpool target Omar Marmoush shines in Eintracht Frankfurt win

Liverpool have been linked to Omar Marmoush for months now as the Egyptian star has been in the form of his life in Germany, producing 20 goals and assisting a further 14 across 26 matches in all competitions.

The 25-year-old added to those numbers on Tuesday night as the Frankfurt forward produced a goal and two assists in The Eagles’ 4-1 win over Freiburg.

Sensational stuff from the hottest prospect in the Bundesliga right now.

This display comes amid speculation that Marmoush could move to Man City with Fabrizio Romano reporting that negotiations over the transfer will continue on Wednesday after the Manchester club submitted their bid – which fell short of Frankfurt’s asking price.

Eintracht Frankfurt are standing firm on their £67m valuation of Marmoush and if City don’t match that, it could bring Liverpool back into the fold during the summer as the Reds may need a replacement for Darwin Nunez should the Uruguayan star move on.

How does Darwin Nunez compare to Omar Marmoush this season?

When it comes to comparing the two forwards, Marmoush’s numbers this season blow Nunez’s out of the water, although the Liverpool star has not been a regular starter at Anfield.

The Egyptian’s 34 goal contributions this season alone, are not far behind what the Reds star has produced at Anfield since moving in 2022, with the 25-year-old scoring 37 goals and 21 assists having played 96 matches more.

The numbers do not look good for Nunez and neither does the eye test, the 2024/25 campaign may be the forward’s last at Anfield, no matter what happens with the future of Marmoush.
