Joshua Kimmich has been linked with Liverpool for what feels like forever, with the Bayern Munich star seemingly set for a move this year.
The Germany international’s contract is due to expire at the end of this season, with Liverpool once again rumoured with signing Kimmich as the Reds also look set to lose a key player of their own who is running down his contract in Trent Alexander-Arnold.
With Jose Mourinho lauding Kimmich as ‘phenomenal’ as per the Bundesliga’s official website, the 29-year-old midfielder-come-fullback could be an ideal signing for Liverpool with Alexander-Arnold set to join Real Madrid this year.
And Kimmich’s team have now seemingly taken matters into their own hands in getting the Bayern star to Liverpool.
Kimmich’s representatives make Liverpool transfer approach
According to Bild journalist Christian Falk, Kimmich’s team have been in contact with Liverpool over a potential transfer, with the Reds considering a move for the former RB Leipzig star with his deal expiring at the end of this season.
With Bayern also interested in signing Alexander-Arnold, all signs point towards Kimmich leaving the Bavarian giants for good when his contract expires later this year, though the Bundesliga leaders remain in talks with the Germany superstar.
Indeed, Jeremie Frimpong is another target for Liverpool in their quest to find a replacement for Alexnader-Arnold heading into the summer, with the Anfield no. 66 set to leave a big hole in the starting XI for Arne Slot going into next season.
And with Kimmich’s representatives making their own approach to Liverpool, there’s a good chance that the Reds could take a gamble on the 29-year-old fullback to replace Alexnader-Arnold, especially with the CV the Bayern star has built up over the years.
What other positions should Liverpool strengthen in the summer?
Right-back is set for a mass overhaul in the summer transfer window with Alexander-Arnold set to leave for Madrid, yet it’s not the only position the Reds will look to add to at the end of this season.
Jamie Carragher has urged Liverpool to sign a left-back to replace Andy Robertson, who has seen his form fall off a cliff this season as Kostas Tsimikas’ injury record continues to frustrate the Reds.
2025 is shaping up to be a transformative year for Liverpool, and signing Kimmich could be a real target for the Reds to help replace Alexander-Arnold, even if the fullback isn’t who supporters might have in mind going into the summer.
