Arne Slot highlighted Liverpool’s need for a new left-back on Saturday as he dropped Andy Robertson from his starting line-up to face Brentford on Saturday.
Robertson has been struggling of late and it was no surprise to see Slot take him out in place of Kostas Tsimikas at the Gtech Community Stadium.
But Tsimikas has never felt likely to be a long-term solution for Liverpool and indeed the Greek was booked inside the first eight minutes against Brentford.
As a result, the Reds are expected to go into the market in 2025 to sign a new left-sided defender.
With numerous options no doubt being assessed, Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez has emerged as an early front-runner.
And after Kerkez scored a stunning goal against Newcastle on Saturday afternoon, journalist Fabrizio Romano shared an update on Liverpool’s interest in him.
Liverpool in the mix for Milos Kerkez
Liverpool fans have been crying out for their owners to bring in a new left-back during the January transfer window.
However, at least for the time being, it looks more likely to be on the docket for the summer.
When they do decide to pull the trigger, though, Kerkez looks set to be right in the mix.
Commenting on the transfer saga immediately after the Hungarian’s excellent goal rubber-stamped the Cherries’ 4-1 win over Newcastle, Romano provided the latest.
“Milos Kerkez scores for Bournemouth and he keeps performing at top level this season,” he says.
“Manchester United and Liverpool are both closely monitoring his progress.”
Liverpool show need for new left-back
As expected, Robertson was taken out of the firing line by Slot for the Brentford game.
Robertson was poor against Nottingham Forest last time out and after Tsimikas laid on a goal with his first touch of that game, it was an easy selection for the Liverpool head coach.
However, Tsimikas did not start well against Brentford as he failed to fully deal with the pacy Bryan Mbeumo.
As Rousing The Kop exclusively revealed on Saturday, Mbeumo is being considered by Liverpool as another summer target and the Cameroonian is not an easy customer.
But Tsimikas’ failure to match him up – and Kerkez’s wonderful early goal – highlighted that this problem is not going away for the Reds.
