2024 turned out to be a huge year in Liverpool history as an enormous changing of the guard took place.

Rewind one year, and Reds fans were blissfully unaware that Jurgen Klopp was about to drop a big old bombshell on their heads.

But after Klopp announced his shock intention to leave Liverpool last January, the Reds landed on their feet by hiring Feyenoord boss Arne Slot.

Slot has worked wonders at Anfield so far, leaving supporters dreaming of titles in 2025. Here are five wishes each and every Liverpool fan will have heading into another key year for the club.

New contracts under the tree

Perhaps the biggest wish for Liverpool fans just now is to get some clarity over the situations of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

Each has been instrumental to Liverpool’s season so far and there is still hope that all three will remain with the Reds beyond the end of their current contracts.

Extensions for each to put an end to the speculation would be top of lots of fans’ wish lists.

Federico finally shows his best

Liverpool’s only signing of 2024 ended up being Italian winger Federico Chiesa. However, injuries have so far prevented the 27-year-old from showing much at all with his new club.

An explosive and exciting winger at his best, Liverpool will hope that 2025 brings so much more for Chiesa and justifies the Reds taking a surprise punt on him in the summer.

If he can get back to being the player seen at Euro 2020, for example, he could make a huge difference to Liverpool’s chances of winning trophies.

New number six arrives in January

As well as making wishes for players already within the Liverpool squad, supporters will be desperate to see some more quality added to it, as well.

Liverpool tried to sign Martin Zubimendi to no avail last summer and there have been all sorts of rumours that the Reds could come again in January.

Even it is not Zubimendi, though, fans are hoping that Slot can bring in a top class central midfielder to help propel Liverpool to a Premier League title.

Premier League won at Anfield

Of course, the ultimate wish going into every year is that Liverpool hoist the Premier League title aloft come May.

Seeing as that has only come true once in the past 34 years, it remains the one that every supporter dreams of, but does not expect.

This time, Slot has put the Reds in a good position, though, and fans will already be circling the last Liverpool fixture of the season, at home to Crystal Palace on May 25th – the 20th anniversary of the Miracle of Istanbul – as a date to keep in mind.

Man City face the music

Away from goings on on the pitch, 2025 could also be a big year in terms of Manchester City’s rule-breaking allegations.

It seems probable that a verdict will arrive over the coming 12 months, and the ramifications could have big consequences for Liverpool.

Given that sanctions could potentially include the awarding of titles to Liverpool, fans will be keeping more than half an eye on what’s going on at the Etihad.

Come on Santa, we’re not asking for much, you’re a Red after all!
