'If there's a chance': Arne Slot drops hint about what Liverpool could now do in the January transfer market

The January transfer window is now open and it remains to be seen whether or not Liverpool take action midway through the season.
Over the years, the Reds haven’t refrained from splashing the cash in January, with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz joining the club in the middle of the season in recent years.
Arne Slot has a strong squad but Liverpool have always been ready to pounce if market opportunities arise.
And now, the Dutchman has made an interesting claim on the Reds’ transfer plans this month.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot drops January transfer window hint
After taking over the reigns from Jurgen Klopp, Slot refrained from splashing the cash in the summer and opted to trust the players he inherited from the German.
Midfield reinforcements were the name of the game in the summer, but after Martin Zubimendi rejected a move to Anfield, the Reds just signed Federico Chiesa on a cut-price deal and shut up.
Slot has said several times over the past few months that he always trusted his squad.
While he reiterated those claims, he added that Liverpool will be attentive if someone they want suddenly becomes available.
“It would be a bit weird if I told you something different than we are happy with the team,” said Slot in his pre-Tottenham Hotspur press conference.
“But we always look at the market. If there’s a chance this club always brings something in. Joe Gomez’s injury means we go from four CBs to three. I’m very happy with the team and that is trust from the club.”
What do Liverpool need in January?
As Slot mentioned, the defence looks a bit thin after Gomez’s injury as Ibrahima Konate is also injury prone and just returned from his knee injury.
A centre-back signing would do Slot a world of good, but it is likely one for the summer unless something dramatic happens this month.
It’s hard to find value for money in January, but Liverpool have actually done quite well in this regard over the years, so it remains to be seen if they add to their squad.
