Liverpool secured a hard-fought 1-0 win against Crystal Palace in a game that saw Alisson Becker limp off in the second half with a hamstring injury.

The Brazilian goalkeeper kicked the ball away and went down immediately as he furiously threw his gloves away. It quickly became clear that he wouldn’t be able to continue as Vitezslav Jaros came on to make his Premier League debut.

Liverpool somehow held on to secure all three points – with Jaros being called into action a few times – but Alisson’s injury has left a bit of a sour taste in an otherwise successful outing for the Reds.

Speaking after the game, Virgil van Dijk has given a rather grim verdict on the Brazilian’s hamstring injury.

Alisson already missed two games this season due to a thigh problem and Caoimhin Kelleher deputised for him then.

However, the Irishman himself wasn’t part of the matchday squad today due to an injury as Jaros came on for an unexpected Premier League debut.

Van Dijk feels Alisson’s injury ‘doesn’t look good’ as he appeared to confirm fears that the Brazilian could face an extended spell on the sidelines.

"Alisson’s injury doesn’t look good. It looks like a hamstring injury which was already bothering him, and from which he recovered,” said Van Dijk after the game (quotes via Liverpool Echo).

The Liverpool captain also spoke about the game in general and admitted that the Reds could have done much better in the second half as Palace grew into the game.

"It is hard to come here. The results over the years are tight and close. I think we scored a fantastic goal.

“We could have done better in the 2nd half, but we knew they’d come out with a bit of pressure on the ball. It ends our run on a high before the internationals.”

Alisson’s injury woes are a big concern for Liverpool

The 32-year-old is definitely one of the best goalkeepers in world football, but his recurring injury issues are emerging as a bit of a problem.

Alisson also missed 16 games due to injuries last season as Kelleher took his place between the sticks.

There are absolutely no questions over the Brazilian’s qualities as a goalkeeper, but it’s not hard to see why Liverpool pushed hard to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili earlier this year with Alisson still having a few years left on his current deal.
