'It's a nice challenge': Arne Slot shares what Darwin Nunez now needs to do to reach the next level

Liverpool face LOSC Lille this week in the UEFA Champions League, with Darwin Nunez heading into the match in fine form.
The Uruguay international was the hero on Saturday for the Reds as the 25-year-old bagged two goals in stoppage time to secure a vital three points for Liverpool, with Nunez setting a new Premier League record in the process.
With Nigel Reo-Coker lauding Nunez’s brace for Liverpool as his most important goals yet for the Anfield side, the former Benfica man is surfing a wave that the attacker will want to continue to ride, with tomorrow night’s Champions League tie a good chance for the striker to add to his tally.
And Arne Slot has now shared what Nunez needs to do to reach the next level with the Reds.
Nunez told to find more consistency after Brentford heroics
Speaking to the press ahead of Tuesday’s European tie at Anfield, Slot issued a ‘challenge’ to Nunez to become more consistent in his goalscoring, with the Liverpool manager confident that the Uruguay international can break into the next level of attackers in world football.
Slot said when asked about Nunez’s recent form and what the striker needs to do to reach that next level for Liverpool: “I think it’s the most difficult thing in football to find consistency.

“Only a few players in the world are able to be at the same level every three days in a row, and then there’s a big, big group of players that are able to play very good many times, but not every single time, and he’s one of those players who belong in that group.
The next step for him is to get into the bracket of the five or six players in the world who are every three days outstanding, we have a few players who are like that, so it’s a nice challenge for him.”
What is currently being said about Nunez’s Liverpool future?
Nunez might be the man of the moment for Liverpool after his incredible performance for the Reds on the weekend against Brentford, but the striker’s display hasn’t buried the fact that the forward has an uncertain future on Merseyside.
Although Nunez is set to stay at Liverpool this January, the summer transfer window could be a different story for the Uruguay international, with Slot likely to revamp his attacking options with Mohamed Salah inching towards a move to Al-Hilal.
Indeed, Nunez needs to start proving to Slot that he can be consistent after a breathtaking performance on the weekend in west London, and a good display tomorrow against Lille will be the perfect place to start for the striker.
