'It's down to me': Harvey Elliott addresses Liverpool exit rumours after 2-0 Brentford win
Today at 07:30 AM
Liverpool secured a dramatic 2-0 win against Brentford this weekend, with Harvey Elliott playing a key role in the result.
The England youth international was brought off the bench with ten minutes to go as Elliott played a role in Liverpool’s opener in stoppage time before directly assisting Darwin Nunez for the second goal shortly afterwards.
With Slot lauding Elliott’s impact for Liverpool against the Bees, the youngster chose the right time to have an important performance for the Reds amid rumours that Borussia Dortmund and Brighton & Hove Albion are interested in signing the midfielder.
And the former Fulham wonderkid has now given his verdict on rumoured transfer interest this month.
Elliott shuts down Liverpool exit rumours with defiant message
Speaking to reporters after last night’s match, Elliott defiantly stated how he has no intention of leaving Liverpool this month or in the near future, with the midfielder stating he wants to fight for his spot in Slot’s team.
Elliott said: "Liverpool is my club. Liverpool is my team. I want to fight for my place, fight for my position in the team. It's down to me to put in the effort, the hard work, the desire, to make that achievement. I am not going to give up, I am going to keep fighting."
With Don Hutchison suggesting Liverpool could sell Elliott to help fund future transfers, there is logic to the 21-year-old potentially being sold given how highly-rated the midfielder is and how much profit the Reds could make from the youngster.
However, with Elliott keen to stay at Liverpool and fight for his spot in the squad, any chance of a potential transfer now seems dead and buried, with the midfielder seemingly eager to create a legacy for himself at Anfield.
How good has Elliott been this season for Liverpool?
With just 247 minutes played this season, it’s safe to say that this campaign has been one to forget for Elliott, who has struggled with injuries and is yet to really gain the trust of Slot having made most of his 11 appearances from the bench.
Yet the former Fulham man has impressed when given the chance, with Francis Benali lauding Elliott after Liverpool’s League Cup win against Southampton in late-December, where the England youth international ran the show for the Reds.
Indeed, chances will come for Elliott the longer he remains fit and the more he impresses from the bench, and this weekend could be a turning point for the 21-year-old under Slot, who could be tempted to give the midfielder more minutes in upcoming games.
