Manchester United today announced the sacking of Erik Ten Hag after losing 2-1 to West Ham on Sunday in the Premier League.

The Dutch manager had endured a historically bad start to the new season with the Red Devils, with Liverpool’s rivals sat 14th in the Premier League standings, with Arne Slot’s side already 11 points ahead of the Manchester giants.

With Ten Hag praising Liverpool’s finishing in their 3-0 win against United earlier this season, the Dutch manager leaving Old Trafford means the Manchester side once again have to return to the drawing board on how to return to their former best.

And on social media, Liverpool fans were all saying the same thing about Ten Hag’s sacking.

Liverpool fans in mourning as Erik Ten Hag leaves Manchester United

With United as comically bad as they were in the Ten Hag era of the club, Liverpool fans were sad to see the former Ajax manager face the chop this afternoon, with many supporters in mourning over the Dutchman’s departure.

One Liverpool fan posted: “A sad day for football. Gone but never forgotten, a living legend of the modern game. Thank you, Erik Ten Hag.”

Another Red published: “Said to hear about the sacking of Ten Hag. I thought he was doing a good job.”

With Ten Hag only managing two wins against Liverpool in his eight encounters with the Reds, it’s easy to see why so many Anfield supporters are so sad to see the 54-year-old manager leave his position at United.

Indeed, Liverpool enjoyed some historic results against Ten Hag’s United, the most famous of which coming last year when the Reds managed an incredible 7-0 victory over the Red Devils, a scoreline that will never be forgotten at Anfield.

A Liverpool fan said after the news broke: “Ten Hag gone, all of the Premier League is mourning”

Whilst another supporter posted on Twitter, sarcastically: “Ten Hag was our guy and he did his job to perfection…I am super sad…”

Liverpool fans will hope Ten Hag’s successor is just as entertaining

United have become something of a joke since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, with the Red Devils failing to come anywhere near the heights they experienced under the legendary Scottish manager.

And with the Ten Hag era now over, Liverpool fans will hope the next manager United appoint is just as entertaining as the Dutch coach, who even after winning the League Cup and FA Cup will still go down as a failure at Old Trafford.

Indeed, Liverpool showed with Slot that they can replace a legendary manager on the first try, and United, 11 years after Ferguson’s retirement, are still looking for that figure who can take the Premier League giants into an exciting new era.
