Liverpool Internationals: Jones Scores on Debut, Kelleher Saves
Today at 03:00 AM
A good day out for our Reds.
Liverpool FC midfielder Curtis Jones scored a fantastic backheel goal on his debut international appearance to make it 3-0 against Greece.
Jones surged upfield and finished off a fantastic sequence with an audacious backheel.
Jarell Quansah was an unused substitute on the bench following his promotion to the senior squad due to multiple withdrawals. Kostas Tsimikas was on the other side of the result, playing 56 minutes.
Jones had this to say about his debut:
"I tried, I tried! The lads around helped as well. I just went out there and I was playing free and I had a smile on my face. I was enjoying it and I'm happy I came away with a goal as well."
"When you've got a team like ours I can go high and I can come low and I can get on the ball and I can play. There's lads there to help and there's also lads who said I can go [forward] as well. Jude [Bellingham] stayed back, so I saw I had a chance to go and lucky enough I scored."
Kelleher saved a penalty for Ireland.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher made a crucial stop for the Republic of Ireland in Dublin against Finland, saving a penalty in the 77th minute to preserve their 1-0 lead over Finland.
Big Kweev reflected on the big save and how the match went:
"Before he stepped up I just looked at the run up and kind of went on instinct and thankfully I went the right way!"
"I think maybe in the first half we rode our luck at times. [There was] two off the post and good defending and some good blocks which you have to do at times. Thankfully we scored a great goal and then I think we just defended. Other than the penalty there weren't many chances, so there's positives to take from it."
Last but not least, defender Ibrahima Konate kept clean sheet for France in their 0-0 draw with Israel in Paris.
