The winter transfer window is an essential yet sometimes controversial part of the football calendar, so what is Liverpool's total January spending through the years?

Some managers loathe having a mid-season transfer window, yet other head coaches love a chance to dip into the market to get any much-needed reinforcements. Even Liverpool have found the January transfer window to be a blessing and a curse since the market's inception.

The Premier League has scheduled a defined winter transfer window in January each season since the 2002/03 term after caving to pressure from FIFA to hold a one-month market. FIFA wanted to have a set January transfer window to limit the movement of players mid-season.

English football was not keen on the idea of restricting when clubs could agree transfers. But the EFL and Premier League eventually begrudgingly accepted FIFA's demands, so clubs like Liverpool have had to focus their efforts on signing stars every summer and in January since.

So, with that in mind, Rousing The Kop has taken a look at Liverpool's spending across every January transfer window to date and who the Reds welcomed to Anfield in winter markets…
