Liverpool take on Chelsea this weekend looking to continue the fine start to the season under Arne Slot and Jamie Carragher has suggested one Blues star actually turns the Reds into title winners.

The Reds know that Chelsea represent the start of a tough run of fixtures but at the moment, Slot’s side are firmly involved in the title race for now.

Of course, Liverpool didn’t make too many signings in the summer, with Federico Chiesa the big name arrival.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have spent fortunes on players in recent windows and Jamie Carragher has claimed in his column for The Telegraph today that Cole Palmer would win Liverpool the title.

Jamie Carragher says £40m Chelsea star would win Liverpool the league

Writing in his latest column for the Telegraph, Carragher has suggested that if Liverpool had Chelsea star Cole Palmer, then they’d be winning the league this season.

“If Palmer was at Liverpool, Arne Slot would be more likely to finish his debut season as a title winner.

“Palmer is that good, currently averaging more goal involvements per match than Stamford Bridge greats like Didier Drogba and Diego Costa,” Carragher said.

Liverpool missed a huge opportunity with Cole Palmer

While not many would have predicted Cole Palmer would go on to be quite as good as he has been, there is no denying other big clubs will be kicking themselves.

Chelsea paid just an initial £40m for Palmer which looking back just over a year, looks like being one of the all-time Premier League bargains of the modern era.

For Liverpool, who will have been fully aware of Palmer’s talent being based in the north-west with Man City, it feels like a big missed chance.

The Reds have known for a while now that Mohamed Salah will be on his way at some point. Whether that is on a free to Saudi or elsewhere, or to simply retire, Liverpool need a replacement for Salah.

Indeed, Michael Emenalo has spoken just week on how close Salah was to going to Saudi.

Palmer very much looks like he could have been that man. Indeed, his stats show he is effectively for Chelsea what Salah is for Liverpool.

Palmer is already at six goals and five assists for the season, while his stat line of 27 and 15 last season was simply brilliant.

Salah, of course, posts similar numbers and with 25 goals and 14 assists last season, almost mirrored Palmer’s output for the Blues.

Every so often, a young player comes along who the big guns know they’ve missed out on.

And while Cole Palmer has his affiliation to Manchester, you can’t help feel that Liverpool have lost out on their chance to replace Salah in the .long-term by allowing Chelsea to snatch him.

This weekend, then, we might see an up close and personal example of just what FSG missed out on.
