Liverpool lost one of their most influential figures in modern history this summer with the departure of manager Jurgen Klopp.

The German coach transformed the Reds more in the 21st Century than any other figure, with Klopp leading Liverpool to their first Premier League title as well as the UEFA Champions League in 2019 playing some of the best football on the planet.

With Arne Slot impressing in his first few months as Liverpool manager, moving on from Klopp has been easier than expected for the Anfield side, with the Dutch coach taking the Merseyside giants in a new direction that could lead to an incredible amount of success in the future.

Yet England legend Stuart Pearce believes a Liverpool player has now emerged as the new main man after Klopp’s departure.

Trent Alexander-Arnold hailed as the new main man at Liverpool

Speaking on TalkSport, the pundit highlighted Trent Alexander-Arnold as the new main figurehead at Liverpool with Klopp now gone, with the 25-year-old defender’s status somewhat elevated over the summer after the German’s departure.

The current vice-captain and a legend in the making, Alexander-Arnold becoming the new main man at Liverpool is something few fans might have thought about, yet Pearce believes the England international is now the new figurehead with the Reds after Klopp’s exit.

Pearce said: "He has almost become, when I look at him, symptomatic. Liverpool and their fans have also had this synergy, and I think Klopp got that as well. He managed the club, understood the fans, that type of thing.

“When I look at the Liverpool lineup and the players there, Trent looks like the one, you know, the youngster from around the place, he knows the club, he’s been there long enough now. He is really integral to what they do. I am looking at him play at the moment, and I think he is really enjoying his football, I really do."

Alexander-Arnold could become the new figurehead of Liverpool if he stays

Alexander-Arnold is one of the best players in the world and a defender that Liverpool relies on heavily when it comes to how they play and how Slot’s attack functions in terms of creativity and getting Mohamed Salah involved.

Yet as of right now, Alexander-Arnold is not the main man at Liverpool, especially with the right-back’s contract with the Reds yet to be resolved as it ticks over into the final nine months.

Indeed, Alexander-Arnold has the potential to become the most important figure at Liverpool if he commits his future to the club, and every Anfield supporter will hope the defender does just that in the coming weeks.
