Liverpool have put a disappointing summer transfer window behind them to record a good start to the season so far.

The Reds had been expected to do much more in the market ahead of the new campaign, but signed only Federico Chiesa.

Giorgi Mamardashvili also joined, but the Georgian goalkeeper will not join up with the Liverpool squad until next summer.

The main disappointment for Liverpool supporters was that their club failed to sign a new starting midfielder to play alongside Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Martin Zubimendi was targeted, but after the Spaniard chose to stay at Real Sociedad, Liverpool chose not to pursue an alternative.

So far, that has not come back to bite the Reds. Ryan Gravenberch has stepped up brilliantly and has quickly become the player Liverpool were crying our for. But with January edging closer, Arne Slot is reportedly setting his sights on a new signing.

Liverpool looking at Joshua Kimmich bargain

Zubimendi was far from being the only midfielder to be linked with Liverpool over the summer window.

Another to have been mentioned plenty was Porto’s Alan Varela. Varela was seen as a great alternative to Zubimendi but Liverpool ultimately chose not to sign the Argentine either.

One more player who was regularly linked was Bayern Munich utility man Joshua Kimmich.

Kimmich is still yet to sign a new contract with Bayern and is currently due to depart at the end of the season.

And while the 29-year-old looks for a new challenge, Caught Offside report that Liverpool continue to be interested in becoming a landing spot for him.

They claim that Liverpool are still looking for a new midfield signing and although Slot and other ‘key figures’ are said to still appreciate Zubimendi, Kimmich’s name is also reported to have ‘come up.’

Other top clubs are still claimed to be in the picture, however PSG have supposedly ‘cooled their interest’ in Kimmich, something which could reportedly make a move to Liverpool more likely.

What are the chances of Joshua Kimmich joining Liverpool?

Kimmich was said to be keen on a move to Liverpool over the summer and, honestly, his addition would make plenty of sense for the Reds.

With half a season left on his contract come January, Kimmich would surely be get-able for a very reasonable fee.

In terms of playing style, you can easily see how the Germany international would be at home in Slot’s system.

Pep Guardiola once called Kimmich a ‘serious player‘ while in charge at Bayern and we think Slot would similarly enjoy working with the former RB Leipzig man.

However, there are two big caveats to why Kimmich’s signing still feels unlikely. The first is his age. At 29, the German is far older than the players Liverpool tend to target, and the second is his wage demands, which are likely to be massive. So, while it may make sense on paper, we just don’t see this happening.
