Liverpool squeaked their way to a narrow 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds were very good at times during a dominant first-half, but allowed Palace back into the game by not killing things off.

During the second period, the home team pushed as hard as they could, but Liverpool stood firm.

The win extends Liverpool’s lead at the top of the Premier League to four points and ensures they can now watch on for a response from Arsenal and Manchester City.

But while the three points will be richly welcomed back on Merseyside, it was not all good news for the Reds in South London.

Liverpool lost Alisson Becker to injury with just over 10 minutes left to play. And the early indications suggest that it could be a ‘bad’ one for the goalkeeper.

Alisson Becker spotted ‘looking distraught’

Alisson had a shout at being Liverpool’s best player of the day against Crystal Palace.

The Brazilian has been excellent so far this season and kept Palace at bay with several important interventions on Saturday.

On this kind of form Alisson is one of the very best in the world, but the one question mark over him reared its head again at Selhurst Park.

Only just back from a hamstring problem, Alisson went down clutching the same muscle late on during the game.

With Caoimhin Kelleher ruled out through illness, Liverpool had to turn to Vitezslav Jaros, who came on for his senior Reds debut.

And looking on for TNT Sports, former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch noticed Alisson ‘looking distraught’ at the end of the game.

“I saw it straight away, he knew straight away and when a player reacts like that you know it’s a bad one,” said Crocuh. “He looks distraught in front of us here and that could be a while now.”

How long could Alisson Becker be injured?

Alisson only missed two games last time he picked up a small hamstring injury just a couple of weeks ago.

But, as Crouch says, this one perhaps looks a little worse and the Brazil international could miss longer.

The one positive for Liverpool is that with an international break coming up, Alisson will have a little longer to recover.

Nevertheless, it looks likely that Liverpool are going to have to lean on Kelleher again.

The Irishman has shown that he is more than capable of stepping in. But this undeniably a huge blow for the Reds.
