Liverpool were 3-0 winners on Saturday against AFC Bournemouth with Luis Diaz the star of the show at Anfield.

The Colombia international took his tally to the season to five goals in five league games with the 27-year-old attacking thriving under new manager Arne Slot, Andy Robertson hailing Diaz after the full-time whistle this Saturday.

With Liverpool firmly in the hunt for the Premier League title, Diaz’s early-season form has been crucial for the Merseyside giants with Slot set on making his first year in charge at Anfield as successful as possible.

Yet Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has said Diaz’s performance wasn’t as good as it looked on the surface.

Peter Schmeichel says Diaz’s goals were ‘lucky’ vs Bournemouth

Speaking on Premier League Productions, the Premier League icon noted that Bournemouth goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga made things easier for Diaz with the on-loan Chelsea keeper criticised for both goals conceded via the Liverpool winger.

Schmeichel said: "The first one, for sure [Kepa should have done better], it's one of those, we call them crazy moments where you make a decision and halfway through, and you can't recover from that. For the second one, we talked about Diaz not being a great goalscorer and having chances.

“We saw the two chances that he missed, if only he had a finish on him, he scores two in two minutes. For the second goal, I wouldn't say it was a great finish, he is a bit lucky in that. If you look, I think a lot of strikers would have chipped Kepa. There is a little gap between his legs and it goes through there.

“Today, everything came good for him, he's such an interesting player because there is so much energy, he works hard for the team, he doesn't score enough goals, but he scored two today and five in total for the whole season, that's good going for him."

Diaz will not not be complaining about his Liverpool performance

Diaz might had some luck in his two goals against Bournemouth, yet the former FC Porto star still had quite a game for Liverpool, with the winger as dangerous as he’s ever been for the Reds.

The Colombian international has been in top form this season with Diaz already three goals off his total tally last season in the Premier League after just five games in the top-flight.

And with Slot getting the best out of Diaz, there’s a real chance that the forward can enjoy his best year yet for Liverpool, with the attacker making the left-wing position his own under his new manager.
