The Liverpool FC Women are expecting to have a couple of key players back from injury early in the new year
The Liverpool FC Women (literally) limped through much of the fall and winter, struggling to find any sort of a groove with a rotating cast of players missing out through injuries. Matt Beard has some good news to start out the new year as two of his key players are returning to fitness after long injury layoffs.
Midfielder Marie Höbinger is expected back in training this week after dealing with a groin injury that saw her miss four matches before the winter break. She will provide welcome relief to a razor thin midfield that has fielded 17-year old Zara Shaw as a started the last couple of matches.
In addition to Höbinger, striker Sophie Roman Haug is also expected to return from a long injury layoff. Roman Haug has been dealing with an ankle and foot issue suffered against Manchester City in October, forcing the Norwegian to miss eight matches. Her aerial threat to lead the line will be a needed for a club who has been lumping in crosses but struggling to win the ball in her absence.
According to manager Matt Beard, Höbinger will be training this week while Roman Haug should be back next week.
"Herby [Höbinger] should be back in training this week and might be available for the bench against West Ham. Sophie will be back in training the week after and hopefully should be back for Brighton."
