As we edge closer to the New Year, each passing day without Mohamed Salah putting pen to paper on a new deal is bad news for Liverpool.

The Egyptian would be free to negotiate terms with potential suitors from January as his contract expires at the end of the season.

Salah is attracting interest from Barcelona and also has admirers in Saudi, while Liverpool remain locked in talks to negotiate his contract.

In the meantime, one of the most in-form players in world football has been tipped to replace the Egyptian at Anfield if he were to leave the club in 2025.

In recent months, Omar Marmoush’s name has dominated the headlines amid his outstanding displays for Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga.

Alongside Hugo Ekitike, the Egyptian has led the line to devastating effect and recently became the only player in Europe’s top five leagues other than Salah to record at least ten goals and assists apiece.

Marmoush has also been linked with a move to Liverpool, although Frankfurt will have a thing or two to say as he’s tied down at the club until 2027.

Fjortoft believes the Egyptian has all the tools to succeed Salah at Liverpool if he were to depart at the end of the season on a free transfer.

"Omar Marmoush – three free kick goals this season and he's already scored 11 goals,” said the Norwegian on ESPN FC’s YouTube channel.

“He's one of the hottest properties in international football and maybe he will go and replace another Egyptian in Liverpool."

Comparing Salah and Marmoush’s stats

Frankfurt tagged Liverpool in a post about Marmoush recently on their official X account, seemingly adding fuel to the fire.

Both players have been in fantastic form this season and also play together for the Egypt national team, while they are the only two players in Europe’s top five leagues to have more than ten goals and assists apiece to their name.

Marmoush is clearly a fantastic talent and if he makes the move to Anfield in the future, Liverpool fans will hope he plays alongside Salah as opposed to filling in as his replacement.
