Liverpool did a professional job to beat Bologna in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

The Reds headed into the game on the back of a four-game winning run across all competitions.

There were some scares along the way at Anfield, but Liverpool turned on the quality and eventually ran out 2-0 winners.

Mohamed Salah was perhaps the star of the show. Salah laid on a brilliant assist for Alexis Mac Allister in the first-half before scoring a trademark curling effort in the second.

But if the Egyptian stole the headlines on the pitch, then Arne Slot once again rewrote the record books on it.

After the win on Wednesday, Slot became the first manager in Liverpool history to win eight of his first nine matches in charge. And at Anfield on Wednesday, Reds supporters let him know what that means to them.

European nights always bring the absolute best out of the Liverpool crowd.

There have been question marks over the Anfield atmosphere over recent weeks, but this is where things come to life.

For Slot, it was his first taste of the UEFA Champions League as Liverpool head coach. And Reds fans unfurled a new banner to mark the occasion.

The Kop is not often adorned with flags for run of the mill league games, so this was the first opportunity to show Slot the full repertoire.

One of the most famous banners in the crowd is one that features all four of Liverpool’s European Cup or Champions League winning managers, plus Bill Shankly.

As if to almost make a point about where he should aspire to be, one fan held up a sizeable banner of Slot just behind this big red flag.

“Arne’s Slot Machine” read the sign, featuring an image of a smiling Slot and the Liver Bird.

Arne Slot makes his mark

Nobody at Anfield is getting carried away just yet, but this really has been a mightily impressive start to life at the club for Slot.

The Dutchman has been at pains to point out that his Liverpool squad have not really been tested just yet, and he’ll keep banging that drum.

But nevertheless, to win eight out of nine is some going. There was one blip in there against Nottingham Forest, but that has been it.

Again, Liverpool weren’t perfect on Wednesday, but they got the job done with something to spare.

And as the crowd displayed to Arne, there’s a growing feeling that he could be one of the special ones.
