Liverpool handled their business on Wednesday by getting the job done against Bologna.

The Reds made life a little bit more difficult for themselves than was needed against the Italians, but still came away as 2-0 winners.

In truth, Liverpool probably should have scored more. A number of promising situations came to nothing over the course of the game.

But by the same token, the Reds were also lucky not to concede at Anfield. Alisson Becker was once again a little busier than he would have wanted to be on his birthday.

Nevertheless, Liverpool came away with a second win out of two in the UEFA Champions League this seaosn.

But, following the game, former Reds striker Peter Crouch claimed that having spoken to Arne Slot, he ‘could tell’ that the Liverpool head coach was not a happy bunny.

Arne Slot not happy with Liverpool display

Liverpool were far from perfect against Bologna. But it’s also fair to say that this is the Champions League, you’re only going to face good sides.

For a team like Bologna as well, this was an absolutely massive night for them.

With the greatest of respect to the Rossoblu, who are a fantastic and historic club, they have not played on Europe’s main stage in almost 60 years. This was their first big night back at the top table.

As a result, it was always likely that Vincenzo Italiano’s side would raise their game. And, barring an early wobble, they did.

But even bearing all of that in mind, Slot was clearly not satisfied with his team’s display on the night.

Slot did praise Ryan Gravenberch’s performance against Bologna, calling it ‘outstanding,’ but otherwise he cut a slightly frustrated figure in an on-pitch interview with TNT Sports after the game.

And commenting just after the Dutchman had spoken to he and his colleagues, Crouch noted that Slot clearly ‘wasn’t happy.’

“He wasn’t happy, you can tell,” said the pundit. “He would have been slightly annoyed in the dressing room.”

Arne Slot keeps his standards high

By emerging victorious from Wednesday’s game against Bologna, Slot became the first manager in Liverpool history to win eight of his first nine matches in charge.

It is very encouraging to see that despite those records tumbling, the 46-year-old is still not satsified.

Other managers might be tempted to give themselves a big pat on the back after such a stat, but Slot is keen to keep pushing for better.

In fairness, he is absolutely right to do so. There were times when Liverpool could have been really punished against Bologna. They do have to be better in certain areas.

But we also hope that Arne finds the time to recognise just what a good job he is doing so far.
