Report: Liverpool have not ruled out making big January sale after private talks with Arne Slot

Darwin Nunez has been a polarising figure at Liverpool ever since the striker joined the Reds back in 2022.
Signed for a huge transfer fee and billed as the potential long-term replacement for Roberto Firmino, pressure has been on Nunez’s shoulders the second the Uruguay international walked through the front door at Merseyside, and this season has been one to forget for the attacker.
The former Benfica man has managed just four goals and three assists in all competitions for the Reds, with Jamie Carragher predicting that Nunez could be sold by Liverpool this year if his form doesn’t improve in the second half of the season.
And Arne Slot has now seemingly had some words with Nuenz in private about his future.
Nunez told by Slot he’s now playing for his Liverpool future
According to CaughtOffside, talks have taken place between the Liverpool manager and Nunez over his future at Anfield, with the 25-year-old attacker warned that his place at the club will be in jeopardy if his form doesn’t improve.
Nunez recently dropped a hint that he wants to leave Liverpool with AC Milan chasing the forward, with the January transfer window presenting the Premier League no. 9 with a chance to start afresh somewhere new after an underwhelming two-and-a-half seasons with the Reds.

Indeed, Nunez’s form has been as bad as it has been this season, with the Uruguay international looking short of confidence and failing to provide the numbers needed to really push Liverpool on in their Premier League title bid.
And Slot and Liverpool would be well within their right to offload Nunez at the end of the season if the striker’s form does not improve, something that every fan can likely already see from a mile away based on the forward’s performances.
Should Liverpool see Nunez this January?
With arguably the deepest and best array of attacking options in all of Europe, Liverpool can afford to lose a player like Nunez in the January transfer window, especially with the striker putting up such poor numbers this season.
Moreover, with clubs like Milan now believed to be interested in signing Nunez and more teams likely to enter the fold in the coming weeks, Liverpool could see a lot of sense in offloading the Uruguay international if a tempting enough offer was made in the coming weeks.
Indeed, Liverpool wouldn’t lose much by selling Nunez with Mohamed Salah in the form of his life and Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz both looking good, and the Anfield no. 9 himself could favour a move if an offer was made.
