Liverpool are finally set to head into a long stretch of uninterrupted football in the 2024/25 season.

The Reds have been brilliant so far in the new campaign, but have seen three international breaks disrupt their rhythm.

With the festive period set to get underway, Arne Slot will now have four months or so without having to send his Liverpool squad off to play for their countries.

While giving a real idea into what Liverpool will be playing for this season, this stretch should also give Slot concrete information about where his team needs improving or adding to in the transfer market.

Throw in the hope that the Reds can clear up the futures of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah, and Liverpool’s transfer plans should become a lot clearer between now and the next break in March.

If Salah is indeed leaving, then it’s fairly obvious that the Reds will need to bring in a new attacker as part of those plans. And the chosen man could well be be Mohammed Kudus.

Liverpool will have to pay full price for Mohammed Kudus

Kudus has been linked with Liverpool even before he joined West Ham United for around £38m in 2023.

Since his arrival at the London Stadium, the 24-year-old has seen his value sky-rocket, with some impressive performances and some good numbers for the Hammers.

Liverpool’s interest in Kudus has not gone away, with claims as recently as last week that the Ghanaian is still firmly on their radar.

However, according to Sky Sports Switzerland, the Reds are going to have to pay up to get him.

They claim that while Liverpool are ‘keeping a close eye’ on Kudus, there is a ‘problem.’

That issue is that West Ham will not accept anything less than Kudus’ £85m release clause in order to sell him.

The Hammers are even claimed to have informed Kudus of this fact and told him that he will only be leaving if the clause is met in full. For Liverpool’s part, they are reportedly ‘not ready’ to put down such a sum on the Ghana international.

Liverpool have Mohammed Kudus alternative

While Kudus would be an interesting signing for Liverpool, it’s hard to see how he is worth anything close to £85m.

The former Ajax man has done well for the Hammers and teammate Aaron Creswell has already summed up what makes him such a dangerous player.

“I won’t go near him in training because I know if I’m going to try to knock him off the ball I had better make sure he’s not looking and doesn’t see me coming,” Creswell told BBC Sport. “You just can’t get near him. He’s so strong, so quick, so sharp.”

While that all sounds good, no forward who has scored 16 goals in 55 games can be worth such a princely amount.

Instead, Liverpool might be better off looking at someone like Christian Pulisic. Pulisic has emerged as a target for Liverpool and perhaps the time is now right to consider the American as a genuine option.
