Report: What Liverpool insiders are insisting about Mo Salah's contract negotiations after surprise comments
Today at 04:30 AM
Mohamed Salah’s future has been in the headlines for some time, and the Liverpool winger has now offered a key update.
The Egyptian international told the press after Liverpool’s 3-2 win against Southampton that he had yet to receive a contract offer from the Reds, with Salah disappointed by the lack of movement with the winger’s current deal set to expire at the end of this season.
Salah said when asked if he was disappointed by the lack of a contract offer: "Of course, yeah. I'm not going to retire soon so I'm just playing, focusing on the season and I'm trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League as well. I'm disappointed but we will see."
Yet Liverpool insiders are insisting something different when it comes to Salah’s contract.
Liverpool want Salah to sign new contract despite recent comments
According to the Athletic, Liverpool insiders are insisting that the Anfield side want Salah to sign a new deal with the Reds, but only if the finances of the contract work around the current framework of what the Merseyside club can work with.
With Saudi Arabia clubs interested in signing Salah and the winger free to speak to clubs in January, time is quickly running out for Liverpool to agree a new contract for their star attacker, who this season already has scored 12 goals in all competitions.

Indeed, with Salah’s alarming comments complicating matters for Liverpool, what happens now with the winger’s contract is anybody’s guess, with the current state of play leaning towards the forward leaving Anfield next summer.
And given how good Salah has been this season, Liverpool fans will be rightfully frustrated if the forward leaves Merseyside, especially with the Reds’ hierarchy seemingly making all the wrong decisions in trying to keep the 32-year-old.
Liverpool have to bite the bullet with Salah’s new contract
Liverpool wanting to remain financially responsible regarding Salah’s new contract makes sense, with the Reds seemingly unwilling to hand their highest-paid player improved terms given their limited means.
Yet given the form Salah is in this season, the financial risk could be worth it for Liverpool, who currently sit top of the Premier League by eight points and are leading the UEFA Champions League league phase.
