Report: Who Barcelona have decided they would prefer to sign out of Luis Diaz or Marcus Rashford

FC Barcelona are in the market for a new wide-attacker, with the La Liga side’s search taking them to Liverpool and Luis Diaz.

The Colombian international has emerged as a target for the Catalan giants with Barcelona already telling Liverpool they will move for Diaz in the summer, with the former FC Porto star’s future at Anfield now in doubt.

Diaz is far from the only attacker Barcelona are interested in, though, with fellow Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah also wanted by Hansi Flick’s side as well as Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford, who is set to leave the Red Devils this year.

With Barcelona interested in a new winger, both Diaz and Rashford are legit targets for the European titans, yet it appears that one player is more favoured than the other in Catalonia this January.

Liverpool’s Diaz amongst preferred Barcelona transfer options

According to Mundo Deportivo, Diaz is grouped with Barcelona’s preferred January transfer options alongside the likes of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak and AC Milan superstar Rafael Leao, with Rashford not listed as a main target.

With Diaz far from pleased with Liverpool’s recent contract offers to keep the Colombian international at Anfield, Barcelona’s growing interest in the winger spells bad news for the Reds, especially with the forward in top form this season.

Harvey Elliott recently named Diaz over Salah in his dream five-a-side team with the wide-attacker on course to enjoy his best season ever for Liverpool, with Arne Slot taking the South American’s game to an entirely new level.

Yet with Diaz now a preferred option for Barcelona this January over Rashford, Liverpool need to do all they can to ensure that the Colombian international does not leave this month, with the winger simply too good to be allowed to depart

How good has Diaz been compared to Rashford since joining Liverpool?

Diaz and Rashford have had two very different careers since the 28-year-old attacker was signed by Liverpool in Janaury 2022, with the winger enjoying an impressive level of success with the Reds at Anfield.

Yet when comparing the two players since Diaz’s arrival, it’s Rashford who comes out on top in every department, with the winger scoring 11 more goals than his Colombian counterpart as well as managing two more assists.

Indeed, 30 of Rashford’s 47 goals came in the winger’s incredible 2022/23 season, where the England international was unplayable at times for United, yet since then, the forward’s form has dropped off a cliff, with Diaz close to overtaking the Old Trafford no. 10.
