The transfer chatter in Italy has the Reds agonizing over a cut-rate offer for the chaotic striker. We're mostly rolling our eyes at said chatter.

While most Liverpool fans remain focused on the troubling contract situations of key stars Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, the opening of the January transfer window is bound to bring with it an uptick in rumours and speculation.

On that front, recent days have seen growing rumblings in Italy surrounding claimed AC Milan interest in Liverpool striker Darwin Nuñez, who by most accounts has taken a step back under new manager Arne Slot and now appears fifth on the forward depth chart.

Given the £75M Uruguayan's hefty price-tag and physical talents, Nuñez has remained highly popular amongst fans for his hard work and graft while they wait in hope that the rest clicks into place and he can harness his chaotic powers for the benefit of the team.

As the rumour mongers in Italy would have it, though, Liverpool as a club are growing tired of waiting and are now agonizing over a loan-to-buy offer from AC Milan that would see them pay €5M up front and then €45M in the summer to take the striker to Italy.

We're just going to put it out there that regardless if the chatter has any grounding on the Milan side, we're fairly confident Liverpool aren't agonizing over that offer given it's a little more than half what they paid for Nuñez and they're in the midst of a title race.

Nuñez may not have turned out to be the striker Liverpool were hoping for when they signed him from Benfica, but taking a book loss on him mid-season and losing a key depth option when they're in the thick of fighting for four trophies would be very stupid.

And no matter how frustrating the contract situation surrounding Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold might be, we don't think the people running Liverpool Football Club are in fact very stupid. So we're pretty sure these Italian rumour mongers are full of it.
