The German could be in the Reds' sights should the Liverpool legend leave at the end of his deal.

Ah, the international break, a glorious time where the lack of interesting football allows fans to revel in their anxieties — whether about their players' health while away with their national teams or just the general state of things — rather than enjoying the sport, second only to the transfer window in its ability to generate rumours seemingly out of thin air.

With Mohamed Salah's contract situation still unresolved — for those fortunate enough to be out of the loop, the Egyptian's deal runs out at the end of this season — there is a natural inclination towards trying to find a replacement, and while it seems inconceivable that the club won't attempt to retain the 32-year old given his current production — Salah is averaging a goal or assist every 74 minutes so far this season — a shortlist of potential successors must be drawn up nonetheless.

Even with zero insight into the internal workings of the club, Karim Adeyemi would be an easy pick to make, one Florian Plettenberg has jumped at. Having been on the club's radar in the past, and seemingly on the verge of a breakout season following a few decent but unspectacular years at Dortmund after his move from RB Salzburg, the German is a rapid left-footed wide attacker with a high work rate. Boxes checked. The fact that he's still 22 and will only have two years left on his deal when summer rolls around only serves to strengthen the argument that the club should be looking to bring him in.

No price has been suggested, but Dortmund have seldom been shy about selling their stars, and the €50-60m range seems plausible in context. A move would probably be contingent on Salah leaving, however, and as such, unlikely to be resolved this side of the new year.
