Liverpool will be contending with more absences than their opponents

Head coach Arne Slot spoke to the press ahead of Liverpool's match against Chelsea this Sunday, as Liverpool look to transition back into league play following the international break.

Alisson remains out for a few weeks at least, but Caoimhín Kelleher will be fit to start in goal.

Though not mentioned by the manager outright, we can also assume that Harvey Elliott, who has just started his rehabilitation phase on grass, remains sidelined.

Apart from the two injuries, Slot will have the vagaries of the international game time and travel time to work with. Alexis Mac Allister only played in one of Argentina's two matches, missing the first and playing the second. Kostas Tsimikas, too, missed the first match his side played in the break. These two will arrive back in Liverpool with question marks over their fitness.

Wataru Endo, also, is a question mark as he struggled with illness over the international break in a period where a few players have taken ill.

Though only these players have explicit fitness concerns, late travel times after an international break will certainly factor into Arne Slot's decision making around Chelsea. The manager won't have forgotten the performance levels following the last international break, and will want a squad that's fresh and firing.
