Trent Alexander-Arnold is inching towards a move to Real Madrid, with the Liverpool defender set to secure the transfer of a lifetime.

The England international has been rumoured with a switch to Los Blancos for some time, with news breaking this week that Madrid are close to reaching an agreement with Alexander-Arnold that will see the fullback make the move to Spain this summer.

Although the Reds could still recoup a small fee for Alexander-Arnold, the deal has split supporters in terms of who to be mad at, with Jamie Carragher ‘disappointed’ the right-back doesn’t want to push Liverpool into the same category of team as Madrid.

Yet ahead of the move, Spanish media are already picking out one thing in Alexander-Arnold’s game that could become a worry for Madrid next season.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s defending noted as a ‘weakness’ by Spanish media

As noted by AS, Alexander-Arnold's ‘defensive weaknesses’ could be an issue for Madrid next season, with the Spanish publication highlighting that the England international’s errors at the back in recent months could lead to Dani Carvajal remaining the first-choice right-back.

With Paul Scholes calling Alexander-Arnold ‘pathetic’ after the defender’s performance for Liverpool against Manchester United at the start of the year, there have been moments where the right-back’s displays at the back have been rightfully questioned and criticised.

Yet with Manchester United legend Denis Irwin comparing Alexander-Arnold to David Beckham some weeks later, it’s obvious that the Liverpool superstar is not your normal fullback, with the 26-year-old possessing a skillset that few players in the world have.

Indeed, Alexander-Arnold’s style of play could be perfectly suited to Madrid and La Liga given the more relaxed nature compared to the Premier League, and this could play into the England international’s advantage when trying to settle in Spain this summer.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s will reach a new level with Real Madrid

Alexander-Arnold’s dream of winning the Ballon d’Or has been the main inspiration behind the defender’s move to Madrid, with the England star keen to become the first fullback to win the biggest individual prize in football.

And whilst a goal as winning the Ballon d’Or is ambitious, Alexander-Arnold is joining the perfect club at the perfect time in his career to make this dream of his possible, even with the Spanish media already pointing out his flaws.

After all, Alexander-Arnold could take his game to a whole new level by becoming Madrid’s new right-back, with the potential combinations with the likes of Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe terrifying to even think about heading into next season.
