Spanish media go overly dramatic about Liverpool fireworks – More than '100 shots' at 3.15am
Today at 11:00 AM
There's usually fireworks on the pitch when Liverpool take on Real Madrid but unfortunately for the Spanish side, it was fireworks off it in the early hours of Wednesday.
That's at least according to El Chiringuito, who report that there has been a 'boycott' of the Spanish team, with fireworks set off outside their hotel at 3:15am.
They have a special news item on the incident today, with their reporters on the ground showing police at Real Madrid's hotel this morning and various firework detritus littering the ground outside the building on Wednesday morning.
"In the Real Madrid hotel, in the Liverpool hotel, fireworks were launched at dawn to bother the players to wake them up," Josep Pederol explained.
This is then followed up by a special report from their reporters in Liverpool, accompanied by footage of the fireworks going off in the night.
"Strong explosions, in the middle of the night, and next to this hotel where the Real Madrid squad is based in Liverpool," the reporter explains.
"It was at three and a quarter in the morning when, without police presence in the Real Madrid hotel, a car arrives here, stops exactly in this position and deposits this amount of fireworks waking up practically the entire Madrid squad.
"This morning the English police went to investigate the place because just 40 metres separate the hotel from the point where the remains are still today. Several batteries of fireworks and more than 100 shots, with which last night they boycotted Madrid."
Whether the incident has negative effects on the Real Madrid for the game tonight remains to be seen.
Some would argue that they've been sleepwalking this season already, so a lack of sleep ahead of this game might not be the best thing to happen to them.
On the flip side, perhaps the incident will provide them with the extra motivation they need to pick up a big win against Europe's in form side and kickstart their campaign. Either way, it seems Anfield may be only the second host to a fireworks show after the efforts of some in the early hours.
