Liverpool Football Club turned 132 years old in 2024 and it would be another big 12 months for the Anfield side, so Rousing The Kop explores their stats in the last year.

John Houlding founded Liverpool on March 15, 1892 alongside a group of his closest friends after they left Everton. Little did they know at the time what would be in store for their new team, which remains one of the biggest names in English and even European football today.

Glory on the continent evaded Liverpool in 2024 after losing 3-1 on aggregate to Atalanta BC in the quarter-finals of the Europa League. But Jurgen Klopp delivered a parting gift after the German quit as the manager of Liverpool by clinching their return to the Champions League.

The bright lights of UEFA's elite club competition illuminating Anfield did not prove to be too daunting for Klopp's successor, though, after Arne Slot took up the hot seat. Reds fans have enjoyed Slot's first seven months as Liverpool's head coach with four trophies in their sights.

So, as Slot reviews his start to life on Merseyside while seeing in the New Year, Rousing The Kop takes a look back at the last 12 months and all of the key stats behind Liverpool in 2024.

Liverpool's Premier League results in 2024

Liverpool fans have relished the start to Slot's tenure at Anfield having established the Reds as the early favourites to win the Premier League title in 2024/25. Klopp also oversaw a title bid last season, but their attempts to dethrone Manchester City in 2023/24 would fall short.

Klopp walked away from Anfield on the back of guiding Liverpool to third place in the 23/24 Premier League standings with 82 points, nine fewer than Manchester City and seven fewer than runners-up Arsenal. A late-season drop in form saw Liverpool's hopes end prematurely.

Liverpool's Champions League results in 2024

Slot made his Champions League debut as a manager with Feyenoord in 2023/24 but he did not lead the Eredivisie side beyond the group stage. So, replacing Klopp in charge at Anfield in 2024 also gave Slot another shot at coaching in UEFA's elite club competition at Liverpool.

Yet, whilst knockout Champions League football proved to be beyond what Slot's Feyenoord side could realise, European football suited his style with Liverpool as UEFA reformatted the first stage into a league phase. Only Liverpool boast a 100% record after six of the eight ties.

Liverpool fell into the Europa League for what proved to be Klopp's final season at the helm on Merseyside, but the Reds failed to win UEFA's secondary club competition after falling to a 3-1 defeat on aggregate to Atalanta BC following a 3-0 loss during their first-leg at Anfield.

Liverpool's EFL Cup results in 2024

Liverpool played EFL Cup games under both Klopp and Slot over 2024 in their 2023/24 and 2024/25 campaigns respectively. The EFL Cup also proved to be the last title that Klopp put in Liverpool's trophy cabinet after his kids beat Chelsea's billion-pound side 1-0 at Wembley.

Slot may even now make the EFL Cup the first title that he adds to Liverpool's trophy cabinet after guiding the defending champions into the semi-finals. The Reds will take on Tottenham Hotspur early in 2025 to earn a place in the final against either, Arsenal or Newcastle United.

Liverpool's FA Cup results in 2024

Slot will oversee his first FA Cup fixture when Liverpool host Accrington Stanley at Anfield on January 11, 2025 in a 12:15 kick-off in the third round. It is a much kinder game on paper for the Dutchman than Klopp had for what proved to be his final run in the competition in 2024.

The FA drew Klopp's Liverpool squad away to Premier League title rivals Arsenal for the third round of the 2023/24 FA Cup. An own goal from Jakub Kiwior (80') before Luis Diaz (90'+5) hit home would see the Reds win, before they beat Norwich City 5-2 plus Southampton 3-0.

Yet Liverpool's final FA Cup run under Klopp came to an early end away at Old Trafford in the quarter-finals after Manchester United beat Liverpool 4-3 after extra-time. Amad Diallo gave the Red Devils a coveted FA Cup victory against their fierce rival in the 121st minute, as well.
