Liverpool this summer saw a huge change with the departure of Jurgen Klopp and the appointment of Arne Slot.

The Dutch coach was tasked with doing what many thought was impossible and succeed one of the greatest managers Liverpool have ever had in Klopp, with Slot arriving from the Netherlands with a huge reputation.

However, the transition has been seamless for Liverpool, with the Reds top of the Premier League after six games and heading into tomorrow’s UEFA Champions League tie at Anfield with Bologna as the clear favourites.

And midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has shared what has changed about his role at Liverpool since Slot’s arrival.

Mac Allister says his role at Liverpool now has ‘more structure’ under Slot

Speaking to the press ahead of tomorrow’s European tie, Mac Allister revealed that the midfield now has more structure, though Slot is still trying to figure out some patterns in the Liverpool engine room to make the Reds more efficient.

One of the revelations for Liverpool this season has been the midfield pivot of Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch, with the former Brighton & Hove Albion star striking a good partnership with the Dutch international.

And Mac Allister believes the changes Slot has made have been good if minimal, with the midfielder saying when asked what the differences have been since Klopp’s departure: “Between Arne and Jurgen, the principles are the same.

“I don’t think there’s a huge difference, but now we have more of a structure and some patterns that we are trying to improve on. That’s the main difference, but apart from that, there’s not much to add.”

Liverpool’s midfield has visibly improved under Slot this season

Going from a 4-3-3 to a 4-2-3-1 could have disrupted Liverpool’s system this season, yet the tweaks made by Slot have ensured that the squad are still playing a brand of football that they were used to under Klopp.

And the midfield has been the big change when comparing Slot’s Liverpool to Klopp’s, with the likes of Mac Allister having more freedom and time on the ball to create damage from deep and to feed the attackers.

Indeed, there’s a reason why Jamie Carragher compared Gravenberch to Patrick Vieira earlier this season, and Liverpool will continue to get better in the midfield as the season progresses under Slot.
