Mohamed Salah might have stolen all the plaudits this season for Liverpool, yet Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz are quietly going about their business.

The Liverpool wingers have been sensational under Arne Slot, with both Gakpo and Diaz on course to enjoy their best seasons yet with the Reds having adapted to the Dutch manager’s fluid attacking system.

Although Salah is the one breaking Premier League records seemingly on a weekly basis, Gakpo and Diaz have been just as impressive in their own right, with Alan Shearer recently naming the latter in his Team of the Week.

And Gakpo has now shared why he enjoys playing with Diaz so much this season.

Gakpo enjoying Diaz playing more centrally for Liverpool

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, the Dutch international noted that he is getting a lot more success out of playing with Diaz since the former FC Porto star’s move to a more central position, with the change from Slot proving to be a masterstroke.

Gakpo said when asked what he thinks about his £50m Liverpool teammate’s performances this season: “I think it's good. Obviously, he plays a little bit more central now but sometimes he comes to the left and I go in the middle, then we switch again.

“It has been a good dynamic and we both get in dangerous positions to score. He showed again on Sunday how dangerous he is – in the box with his head, and his second goal I think was a great run and a good finish.

“I think when we play together, the way we click together is that we go in each other's positions and going back, trying to make our actions and getting each other in the best possible position to be dangerous.”

Slot’s player development at Liverpool has been revolutionary

Gakpo and Diaz have been fantastic for Liverpool this season, but they’re far from the only two players to develop at a rapid pace under Slot in recent months.

Ryan Gravenberch has been arguably the revelation of the season for the Reds, with the Dutch international making the defensive midfield position his own and establishing himself as one of the best young players in the Premeir League.

With Kostas Tsimikas also thriving under Slot despite numerous injuries, the former Feyenoord manager is getting every ounce of quality out of his current squad, and 2025 could see the Dutch coach bring in his own elements via the transfer market.
