'This is home for me': Liverpool player reacts after being told fans were chanting his name at Anfield today

Saturday turned into an excellent day for Liverpool as they moved back to the top of the Premier League table.
The Reds slipped down to second place after drawing with Arsenal last time out, allowing Manchester City to capitalise and jump ahead.
But with Arsenal having already been beaten by Newcastle in the day’s early kick-off, Liverpool had extra incentive to see to Brighton at Anfield.
As it turned out, that carrot was enlarged enormously by the time the full-time whistle blew, with City suffering a shock defeat against Bournemouth.
Of course, the Liverpool players out on the pitch did not know that. But the Anfield crowd certainly did and roared them on to overturn a 1-0 deficit during the second-half.
Liverpool’s turnaround during the second period also coincided with the introduction of Joe Gomez at centre-back. And speaking after the game, Gomez saluted the Reds’ supporters.
Joe Gomez says Liverpool is his ‘home’
Gomez was exceptional against Brighton on Saturday. It is never easy to come into a game where your team is struggling, but the 27-year-old did it brilliantly.
He immediately looked settled alongside Virgil van Dijk and could even have scored a couple of goals.
In the end, Gomez was not needed to trouble the scorers, as Cody Gakpo and then Mohamed Salah did the business for Liverpool.
Despite the contributions of the goal scorers, though, it was seemingly Gomez’s name that the fans were chanting after the match.

Asked by LFCTV how it felt to hear his name being sung from the stands, the long-serving defender admitted that Liverpool is ‘home’ for him.
“It’s always special,” Gomez replied. “Obviously this is home for me and the club means everything to me.
“But the most important thing, it’s cliché, but we got the win and we keep the momentum heading into a big game in the Champions League.”
Joe Gomez sends Liverpool reminder
Over the summer it had started to feel almost inevitable that Gomez was going to leave Liverpool.
Even after a £45m move to Newcastle was taken off the table, it seemed as though the No.2 might find another exit route.
In the end, he stayed put. And as Gomez showed on Saturday, that is just as well for Liverpool.
Although he has slipped down the pecking order a little in recent years, Joe is still capable of doing a job for the Reds.
As Liverpool wait to hear the extent of Ibrahima Konate’s injury, they can rest safe in the knowledge that Gomez has them in good hands in the meantime.
