Quite a game for your holiday enjoyment, as Liverpool grab another three points against Tottenham Hotspur in London.

Tottenham Hotspur 3 - 6 Liverpool

Tottenham: Maddison 41', Kulusevski 72', Solanke 83'
Liverpool: Díaz 23', 85', Mac Allister 36', Szoboszlai 45+1', Salah 54', 61'

Pre-Match

Lots of changes from their mid-week quarter-final League Cup victory against Southampton. Darwin Núñez and Diogo Jota start on the bench with Luis Díaz leading the line and Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah on the wings in support. Andy Robertson also served his one-ban match earlier this week, so he is back in the team as well. This match serves as a preview of the League Cup semis, which will feature these two teams as well.

First Half

Liverpool came out ready to play, which is nice. Mohamed Salah nearly sneaks an early goal when Spurs' substitute goalkeeper Fraser Forster casually passed the ball right to him. Salah's swift shot hit the side netting.

Early big chances are all for Liverpool here. Forster denied another Salah attempt, and then Dominik Szoboszlai's rebound is also blocked for a Liverpool throw-in. Spurs were chasing the league leaders for the first 10 minutes, but unfortunately the Reds did not manage to score.

Quarter of an hour into the match, Spurs got their first attempt on goal, a long range effort that had Alisson Becker diving but went well wide of the net.

The Liverpool goal, when it finally arrived, was a real beauty. It started with an inch-perfect cross into the box by Trent Alexander-Arnold. Díaz timed his run exactly, making it VAR-proof when he dove through the air and smashed the ball home with his head. I'm going out on a limb and saying that stunner will make my top 10 goals this season.

It took another 13 minutes for Liverpool to pick up their second goal. This time the attack was started by Robertson with a delectable cross into the box. Szoboszlai got a head on it, and Mac Allister's header hit the back of the goal.

Spurs woke up after that second goal. For the first time in this game, Son Heung-min began making himself known on the wing. He got off a few wayward shots, but ultimately, Spurs got their goal through James Maddison after Liverpool lost possession in their own half. A silly goal to concede, and hopefully the Reds won't live to regret it.

Szoboszlai's fantastic performance was rewarded just at the brink of halftime. He got the flick-on to Salah and then just kept rushing forward. Salah got it back to him, and he took a touch to control it and then hit it into the goal to make it 3-1.

Second Half

Three was clearly not enough for Liverpool. They came back in the second half the way that they ended the first half, in control and hungry for more goals. It wasn't long before Salah joined the in the fun. The counterattack started with Gakpo and Díaz. Szoboszlai got the first crack at it, but it doesn't go right. However, Salah is there to get it home.

Szoboszlai should have made it five, but after a strong run, he's pushed just too far wide and the shot hit the side netting.

Salah took care of that, though. A few moments later, he grabbed a brace, and once again, it's due to the incredible work Szoboszlai has done in the middle of the pitch today. He chased Gakpo's pass, and tee'd it up to Salah for a tap-in. It's the goal that officially makes Mo Liverpool's fourth highest goalscorer of all time.

The first changes of the evening are Mac Allister and Gakpo making way for Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones.

Another lapse from the Reds allowed for Spurs to grab a second goal of the night. Former Red Dominic Solanke chipped it in and Dejan Kulusevski got the volley passed Alisson at close range. Look, is that goal going to change the trajectory of the game in the last 20 minutes? Probably not. Is it annoying? Very much so.

Liverpool took their foot off the gas a bit, and Spurs took advantage again with another goal off Solanke. The score ticked to 5-3, what a wild ride this game was.

But it wasn't over yet, and Díaz used his last touch of the game to score his second and Liverpool's sixth.

Alisson was forced into a save on the other end, preventing the game to reach the absurd scoreline of 6-4. Is this a football match or a baseball game?

Final Thoughts

Liverpool go four points clear at the top with a game in hand. Despite the win, Arne Slot likely has several things to address with his players before Boxing Day. That's not our problem though. So Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, up the Reds!
