'Tough few weeks': Liverpool player now admits he's struggled, after reports he could be sold this summer

Darwin Nunez is one of Liverpool’s most expensive signings, yet this season has once again been a difficult one for the striker.

The Uruguay international has been in and out of the Liverpool starting XI all season under Arne Slot, with Nunez only managing seven goals and seven assists in all competitions for the Reds heading into the final two months of the campaign.

As a result, Nunez has now been rumoured with an exit from Liverpool this summer, with Jamie Carragher urging the Reds to sign two forwards to help compliment Mohamed Salah should the winger remain at Anfield beyond this season.

And Nunez has now come out and spoken about his poor form for Liverpool this season on international duty with Uruguay.

Darwin Nunez admits he is ‘not performing’ for Liverpool

Speaking to the press, the former Benfica star admitted that his form simply hasn’t been good enough, with Nunez saying he has endured ‘a tough few weeks’ with Liverpool crashing out of Europe and losing the Carabao Cup final.

Although Nunez impressed Liverpool fans against Southampton earlier this month, the attacker confronting his other performances as below par is commendable, and the South American will want to use this international break to return to form.

Nunez said: “It’s been a tough few weeks for me personally. These are moments that you go through in football. I’m not someone who throws in the towel because I can’t play; I’m going to fight to be able to play every game I know I’m not performing as well as I should.

“It’s difficult because when you’re doing well or playing well, your confidence changes, but the next game you find out you’re not playing, and that makes you feel down. But I always try to train to be well and help my teammates in any way I can; that’s what matters. The ball doesn’t want to go in. I’m running a lot, playing well, and not being able to score a goal, it’s bad luck.”

It feels like a line that has been thrown around almost on a monthly basis since Nunez signed for Liverpool in 2022, but heading into the final weeks of this season, the striker is truly running out of time to save his career at Anfield.

The 25-year-old attacker’s performances have been nothing short of subpar for Liverpool this season, with some bright moments against the likes of Southampton giving fans a glimmer of hope that Nunez might be on the path to stardom at long last on Merseyside.

With just nine games of the Premier League season left to go, Nuenz knows he does not have a lot of time left to stop his Liverpool career from imploding, and some big performances after the international break are needed of the forward is to impress supporters heading into the summer.
